The village of Aapte in Shahapur Taluka has long struggled with inconsistent water availability, affecting both agricultural productivity and daily household needs. To address this critical issue, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, with the generous support of Gattefossé, implemented an important water conservation project in 2024.
The project involved the construction of a durable and high-capacity water storage structure with an estimated capacity of 37,50,000 liters. This reservoir has significantly improved year-round access to water for the entire village. With a stable water source now available, nearly 50 acres of agricultural land benefit from consistent irrigation, enabling farmers to grow more crops, improve yields, and strengthen their financial stability.
In addition to agricultural benefits, the project has greatly eased domestic water use challenges and ensured adequate water for cattle, a vital component of rural livelihoods. The increase in groundwater recharge and long-term water retention has fostered ecological balance and enhanced community resilience during dry periods.
This initiative has created a positive and lasting impact on the village’s quality of life and economic well-being.
