In 2019, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook and successfully completed a significant River Desilting and Widening project at Aapte village in Shahapur Taluka, aimed at rejuvenating the local water ecosystem and enhancing water security for the rural population. Through meticulous desilting and widening work, the river’s water holding capacity increased by an impressive 31,50,000 litres, leading to a substantial improvement in groundwater recharge and surface water availability throughout the year.
With an investment of ₹2.03 lac, sponsored entirely by VSM, this eco-restoration effort has directly benefited over 600 villagers, including farmers who now enjoy improved irrigation possibilities, as well as households with enhanced access to clean water for daily use. The project’s successful completion has not only mitigated the risks of seasonal water scarcity but also revived the ecological balance of the region. As a completed initiative, it stands as a testament to VSM’s commitment to grassroots-level water conservation, rural empowerment, and sustainable development.
