Asnoli, Shahapur

Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a significant desilting project in the village of Asnoli, Shahapur, in 2019 to enhance water availability for the local community. The lake, spanning an area of 1016 square meters, had accumulated silt over the years, reducing its water storage capacity. To address this, VSM carried out desilting work, removing 307 cubic meters of silt. This effort led to a substantial increase in the lake’s water-holding capacity by 307,000 liters, ensuring better water retention during the monsoon season.

The project was executed with an expenditure of ₹0.69 lakh, a cost-effective investment with long-term benefits for the villagers. The improved water storage directly benefits the residents of Asnoli by providing a reliable source of water for domestic purposes. Additionally, it has significantly supported cattle-rearing, a primary livelihood for many families in the region. With increased water availability, the villagers now experience reduced dependency on external water sources, especially during dry seasons.

By implementing this project, VSM has reinforced its commitment to sustainable water conservation. The successful desilting of Asnoli Lake stands as an example of how targeted efforts can restore local water bodies, ensuring a steady supply of water for both household and agricultural needs. Such initiatives play a crucial role in improving rural water security, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting environmental sustainability.
