In May 2024, a significant River Desilting and Widening Project was successfully completed at Avalpada KT, Shahapur, under the joint sponsorship of Naam Foundation and Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM). This vital eco-restoration effort has led to an impressive increase in water storage capacity by 17,23,000 liters, directly benefiting approximately 200 people in the surrounding rural community. The desilting and widening of the river not only improved water retention during the monsoon season but also enhanced groundwater recharge, contributing to year-round water availability for farming and daily use.
Though the total expenditure has not been disclosed, the scale and outcome of the project speak volumes about the impact achieved through strategic community engagement and donor support. The initiative is a shining example of how grassroots efforts, when backed by committed organizations like Naam Foundation and VSM, can bring long-term water security to drought-prone regions. The project now stands successfully completed, leaving behind a sustainable legacy for the local population.
