Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a significant desilting project in Babrewadi, Shahapur, to restore the village lake and enhance its water storage capacity. Covering an area of 1,865 square meters, the lake had accumulated heavy silt over the years, reducing its ability to hold water. In 2022, VSM successfully desilted 3,800 cubic meters of soil, significantly improving the lake’s water retention. As a result, the water storage capacity increased by 38.00 lakh liters, ensuring a more sustainable water supply for the local community.
This initiative, completed with an expenditure of ₹3.23 lakh, was sponsored entirely by Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal. The project has had a direct impact on the lives of the villagers, ensuring year-round availability of water for domestic and cattle use. The improved water retention has not only reduced water scarcity in the region but has also contributed to groundwater recharge, benefiting the ecosystem. The successful execution of this project reflects VSM’s commitment to rural development and sustainable water conservation. By restoring water bodies through desilting, VSM continues to support rural communities, making them more resilient to water shortages and environmental challenges.
