In 2019, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a crucial desilting project at Bardepada village in Shahapur to enhance water availability for local communities. The project focused on rejuvenating a 4,800-square-meter lake that had accumulated silt over the years, reducing its storage capacity. Through an extensive desilting process, 7,260 cubic meters of silt was removed, significantly increasing the lake’s water-holding capacity. As a result, the project enabled an additional 7,260,000 liters of water storage, ensuring a more sustainable water supply for the villagers and their cattle.
With a total expenditure of ₹5.98 lakh, this initiative directly benefited the residents of Bardepada by securing a dependable source of water for domestic use and livestock. Shahapur, known for its dependency on rain-fed water sources, often faces seasonal shortages. This project, sponsored by VSM, played a vital role in improving water retention and reducing the risk of water scarcity. By restoring the lake, the initiative not only addressed immediate water needs but also contributed to long-term groundwater recharge and ecological balance in the region.
The successful completion of this project highlights the importance of community-driven water conservation efforts. Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal remains committed to similar initiatives, ensuring that villages like Bardepada continue to thrive with improved water security.
