Ganganwadi-2 Upper

Ganganwadi-2 Upper

The Ganganwadi-2 Upper Check Dam at Village Ganganwadi, Taluka Shahapur, was successfully completed by Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, with the generous support of Mr & Mrs Rekhi. This water conservation project has created an estimated 3,375,000 litres (33.75 lakh litres) of water storage capacity, ensuring improved groundwater recharge and year-round water availability for the surrounding community. Constructed at an expenditure of ₹4,73,569, the 22-meter-long check dam has become a vital source of water security for the village.

The project is designed to capture and retain rainwater that would otherwise flow away during the monsoon. By increasing groundwater recharge, it supports irrigation, improves soil moisture, and provides a dependable water source for agriculture and livestock. The availability of water is expected to enhance agricultural productivity, encourage multiple cropping seasons, and strengthen the livelihoods of local farming families while reducing the impact of seasonal water scarcity.

The Ganganwadi-2 Check Dam reflects the commitment of Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal to building sustainable, water-secure villages through community-driven water conservation initiatives. With the invaluable support of Rekhi, this project is creating long-term environmental and socio-economic benefits by conserving water, empowering farmers, and contributing to the sustainable development of rural Maharashtra.
