Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal successfully implemented a water conservation project at Chikhali Talav in Shahapur Taluka during the year 2024, with the aim of strengthening a key local water body and ensuring sustainable water availability for the surrounding community. Seasonal water scarcity has long affected domestic life and livestock in the region, making this initiative especially important.
The project enhanced the talav’s water storage capacity to an estimated 7,48,000 liters. This conserved water now serves as a reliable source for domestic use, supporting daily household needs and reducing dependence on distant water sources. The availability of water has also proved highly beneficial for cattle, ensuring adequate water for livestock and improving animal health throughout the year.
Beyond immediate use, the conservation work has contributed to groundwater recharge and improved the overall water balance in the area. Nearby wells and hand pumps have shown improved reliability, particularly during the summer months. The project was implemented with community participation and was financed jointly by Naam and Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable rural development and environmental stewardship.
Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal continues its mission to revive and conserve traditional water bodies, building long-term resilience against water scarcity for villages across Shahapur Taluka.
