Chillarwadi, Shahapur

Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a crucial desilting project at Chillarwadi in Shahapur to improve water availability for the local community. The lake, spanning an area of 850 sq meters, had accumulated silt over the years, reducing its water-holding capacity. Through this project, a total of 1,785 cubic meters of silt was removed, significantly increasing the lake’s storage capacity by 17,85,000 liters. This effort has directly benefited the villagers by ensuring better access to water for both domestic and cattle use, addressing a critical need in the region.

The desilting initiative was completed in 2022 with a total expenditure of ₹1.61 lakh, fully sponsored by Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal. By enhancing the lake’s water retention capacity, the project has contributed to groundwater recharge and improved the availability of water throughout the year. This initiative is a step toward sustainable rural water management, helping the community become more resilient against water scarcity. The increased water supply has also had a positive impact on agriculture and livestock, which are vital for the livelihoods of the people in Shahapur.

With projects like these, VSM continues its mission of water conservation and rural development. This successful intervention at Chillarwadi-3 stands as a testament to how strategic desilting efforts can restore natural water bodies and support the well-being of communities.
