In 2021, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a crucial water conservation initiative in the village of Dahivali, Shahapur. The project focused on desilting a lake spanning 55,265 square meters, aiming to enhance its water storage capacity and ensure a sustainable water supply for the local community. With 2,500 cubic meters of silt removed, the desilting process significantly increased the lake’s storage capacity by 2.5 million liters. This initiative played a vital role in addressing water scarcity issues in the region, particularly benefiting both domestic households and cattle owners.
With a total expenditure of ₹1.75 lakh, this project proved to be a cost-effective yet impactful solution to water conservation. Sponsored entirely by Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, the initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to rural development and environmental sustainability. By deepening the lake and increasing its water retention capacity, the project has provided long-term benefits, ensuring a stable and reliable water source for the local population. The availability of water for domestic use has improved daily life for villagers, while cattle now have easier access to drinking water, reducing their dependency on uncertain seasonal sources.
Through this successful intervention, VSM has reinforced the importance of water conservation and community-driven efforts in tackling water scarcity. This project stands as a testament to how sustainable initiatives can create a lasting impact, empowering rural communities with essential resources for a better future.
