Eklahare

In 2021, a significant water conservation initiative was successfully completed in Eklahare village, Taluka Murbad, with the support of the Rotary Club of Thane and the implementation expertise of Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM). The project was designed to address the recurring water scarcity faced by villagers, especially during the summer season, by creating a dependable and sustainable water storage system.

The newly constructed structure, with a capacity of 21,40,000 liters, now plays a crucial role in ensuring year-round water availability for the community. Completed at a project cost of ₹1.75 lakhs, it stands as a highly effective model of rural water management. The stored water serves multiple essential needs, primarily providing reliable domestic water supply and supporting cattle care, which is a major part of the local livelihood.

This initiative has eased the daily struggles of households that previously relied on distant or seasonal water sources. It has also strengthened the village’s livestock-based economy by ensuring that cattle receive adequate water even during dry months. Additionally, the project contributes to groundwater recharge, supporting long-term ecological balance.
