In 2022, a crucial River Desilting and Widening project was successfully undertaken at Godycha Pada-2 in Murbad, aimed at enhancing local water storage and ensuring better water access for rural communities. With generous sponsorship from Mr. Gajanan Khandekar and Mrs. Ranjana Khandekar, the project was implemented at a modest cost of just ₹0.72 lakh, yet resulted in a substantial environmental impact. Post-completion, the desilted and widened river section now offers an increased water storage capacity of 8,92,000 litres, significantly boosting the village’s water resilience, especially during dry months.
This intervention has directly benefited 120 villagers, including farmers and families who previously struggled with limited water availability. By restoring natural water flow and improving groundwater recharge, the project has also contributed to better agricultural output and improved quality of life in the area. Now marked as completed, this initiative stands as a shining example of how targeted, community-backed water conservation efforts—supported by thoughtful donors—can lead to sustainable change in rural Maharashtra. It reflects the spirit of collaboration and commitment to environmental restoration championed by grassroots programs.
