Jalkumbh, Shahapur

In 2022, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) successfully completed a desilting project in Jalkumbh, Shahapur, aimed at enhancing water availability for local communities and cattle. The project focused on a lake spanning 533 square meters, where 2,224 cubic meters of silt was removed, significantly improving water storage capacity. This initiative increased the lake’s ability to store an additional 22,24,000 liters of water, ensuring better water accessibility for the villagers.

The total project expenditure was ₹2.20 lakh, efficiently utilized to maximize the impact of desilting efforts. By deepening the lake and removing accumulated silt, the project not only improved water retention but also contributed to groundwater recharge. This initiative has been instrumental in securing water resources for domestic use and cattle, providing much-needed relief to the local community, especially during dry seasons.

Sponsored by Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, this desilting project stands as a testament to the organization’s commitment to sustainable water management. The improved water availability has eased the daily struggles of villagers, reduced dependency on external sources, and ensured that livestock have sufficient water supply throughout the year. Through such impactful initiatives, VSM continues to work towards rural water conservation, ensuring long-term benefits for communities reliant on natural water sources.
