Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) undertook a crucial desilting project in Khedale, Murbad, in 2021 to improve water availability for the local community. The project focused on desilting a 36,689 sqm lake, removing 510 cubic meters of silt to enhance water storage capacity. As a result, an additional 510,000 liters of water can now be stored, significantly benefiting the region. With a total expenditure of ₹0.35 lakh, this initiative was a cost-effective yet impactful intervention towards rural water conservation.
The desilting has led to remarkable benefits for the villagers. One of the key impacts is the increase in water levels in borewells and wells, ensuring a sustainable supply for daily needs. Farmers in the region, who previously faced water scarcity post-monsoon, can now cultivate two to three crops annually, improving their agricultural productivity and income. Additionally, dairy farmers now have better access to water, promoting livestock health and enhancing milk production. These improvements collectively contribute to rural self-sufficiency, reducing dependency on external water sources.
Through such projects, VSM continues its commitment to sustainable water management. The Khedale desilting project is a testament to how small yet strategic interventions can transform rural communities, ensuring long-term water security and agricultural prosperity.
