The village of Pendhari in Murbad Taluka has historically struggled with limited water availability, affecting both agriculture and daily livelihoods. In 2019, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, with generous financial support from Laxmi Engineers, undertook a major water conservation project to provide a sustainable solution for the community.
The project involved the construction of a large and durable water storage structure with an estimated capacity of 29,40,000 liters. This reservoir has significantly improved water accessibility throughout the year, making a notable impact on agriculture. With consistent irrigation now possible, nearly 25 acres of cultivation land have been revitalized, helping farmers grow multiple crops, improve yields, and stabilize their income.
Beyond agricultural benefits, the project also generated direct employment opportunities during construction—18 local villagers gained livelihood support as labourers, providing crucial income for their households. The initiative has boosted groundwater levels, reduced dependency on tanker water, and strengthened the village’s resilience against drought.
Overall, the project has fostered long-term environmental balance and economic security for the Pendhari-K community.
