Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal successfully implemented a water conservation project at Sakurli village in Murbad Taluka during the year 2024. The project was designed to restore and strengthen a critical local water source, addressing the recurring problem of water scarcity and ensuring sustainable water availability for domestic use and livestock throughout the year.
Through effective planning and community participation, the project enhanced the water storage capacity to an estimated 38,77,000 liters. This significant improvement has provided a reliable source of water for village households, reducing the time and effort spent on fetching water from distant sources. In addition, the conserved water now serves as a vital resource for cattle, supporting livestock health and contributing to the livelihoods of farming families.
The initiative has also promoted groundwater recharge in the surrounding area, improving the overall water balance and ensuring better availability in nearby wells and hand pumps. The project reflects Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal’s commitment to sustainable water management, rural development, and environmental conservation.
By conserving water resources in Sakurli, the project has strengthened resilience against drought and improved the quality of life for the local community.
