Shivner, Shahapur

Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal (VSM) successfully undertook a desilting project in Shivner village, Shahapur, to enhance water storage capacity and ensure a sustainable water supply for the local community. The project focused on desilting a lake spanning 7,454 square meters, removing 1,794 cubic meters of silt. As a result, the water storage capacity increased by 1,794,000 liters, directly benefiting the villagers by improving water availability for domestic and cattle use.

Executed in 2020, this initiative was sponsored by VSM and carried out with the objective of addressing water scarcity issues in the region. The total expenditure for the project amounted to ₹1.23 lakh, making it a cost-effective yet impactful solution for the local population. The removal of excess silt not only increased the lake’s storage capacity but also improved groundwater recharge, ensuring a more consistent water supply during dry seasons.

The desilting effort has brought significant relief to the villagers, particularly farmers and cattle owners, who now have improved access to water. By restoring the lake’s capacity, the project has contributed to long-term water conservation, supporting sustainable rural development. Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal remains committed to executing such initiatives that foster environmental sustainability and uplift rural communities by securing vital water resources.
