In 2016, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal undertook a crucial water conservation initiative in the village Talawali-2, Taluka Murbad, with the support and financing of Rotary Club Thane.
The primary goal was to restore water security for farming families who depend entirely on seasonal rains for their livelihood.
A well-planned check-dam renovation and watershed work were carried out, resulting in an impressive water storage capacity of 3,75,000 litres. This project has brought back life to nearly 10 acres of cultivation land, helping farmers grow crops with stability and confidence.
Before this intervention, villagers faced severe water scarcity—fields remained dry, productivity had fallen, and many farmers were forced to reduce their cropping cycles. With the restored water availability, they can now cultivate more reliably, earn better income, and secure their family’s future.
This project stands as an example of how community-driven conservation efforts can transform rural livelihoods. With limited cost—₹1.16 lakh—the impact created is long-lasting, sustainable, and deeply meaningful.
