In 2020, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, undertook a crucial desilting project at Waghachi Wadi, Murbad, with the generous support of Trafigura Charitable Trust. The project focused on restoring a lake spanning 3,589 square meters, which had suffered from silt accumulation over time, reducing its water storage capacity. Through systematic desilting, 2,365 cubic meters of silt was removed, significantly enhancing the lake’s ability to retain water. This initiative aimed to rejuvenate the water body, ensuring sustainable water availability for the local community, agriculture, and groundwater recharge.

With a total expenditure of ₹2.57 lakh, the project successfully increased the lake’s storage capacity by 23,65,000 liters. This substantial improvement plays a vital role in addressing water scarcity, particularly in drought-prone regions. By increasing water retention, the initiative supports irrigation, livestock, and domestic needs, thereby improving the overall quality of life for the villagers. Furthermore, the desilting process also contributes to soil conservation and enhances biodiversity in the area.
