In a significant stride toward water conservation and sustainable resource management, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal successfully implemented a Rainwater Harvesting Project at Zilla Parishad School, Dhasai in Shahapur Taluka, Thane District. This initiative not only addressed the local water scarcity concerns but also created a model for eco-conscious infrastructure within educational institutions.
The project was generously sponsored by Mahindra Finance, whose valuable support enabled the construction and operationalization of the system. The total expenditure for the project stood at ₹2,69,150, a cost that covered the full implementation of rainwater harvesting infrastructure — including roof water collection, filtration, and ground percolation systems.
With this system in place, the school is now capable of harvesting an estimated 3,37,500 litres of water annually, a remarkable amount that significantly reduces dependence on external water sources, especially during the dry season. The harvested water can be used for sanitation, gardening, and other non-potable requirements of the school.
This project directly benefits 169 individuals, including students and staff, by ensuring regular access to water and promoting awareness of sustainable water usage. More importantly, it serves as an educational example to the students and the community at large on how local-level efforts can make a meaningful environmental impact.
