Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, successfully completed the Rain Water Harvesting Project at Z. P. School, Katkarwadi Vachkole, located in Katkarwadi Village, Taluka Murbad, in December 2025. The project was implemented with the generous support of Mr. Bhalchandra Kindre at a total expenditure of ₹346,094. Designed to promote sustainable water conservation, the system captures rainwater from a 127 sq. m. rooftop area and has an estimated annual water storage capacity of 286,000 liters.
The harvested rainwater helps meet the water requirements of the school while reducing dependence on external water sources. In addition, the project supports groundwater recharge, improves water security, and ensures that valuable rainwater is effectively utilized instead of being lost as surface runoff. This initiative demonstrates the practical application of sustainable water management in a rural educational institution.
The Rain Water Harvesting Project directly benefits 16 people, contributing to a healthier and more water-secure environment for the school and the surrounding community. It also serves as an excellent example of environmental responsibility by encouraging students and local residents to adopt water conservation practices. Through this initiative, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, continues its commitment to creating sustainable solutions that strengthen communities and protect natural resources for future generations.
