Z. P. School Kharid, Shahapur

Vasundhra Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, successfully implemented a Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) project at Z. P. School Kharid, Shahapur, in May 2024. This initiative was undertaken to address the pressing need for water conservation and sustainable resource management in the region. With Cannon Design as the donor, the project has created a long-term solution for ensuring a steady water supply for the school and its students.

The rooftop rainwater harvesting system utilizes a 160 sq. m. catchment area to collect rainwater efficiently. This setup is designed to harness approximately 3,60,000 liters of water annually, significantly reducing dependency on external water sources. The water collected is filtered and stored for various uses, ensuring that 70 beneficiaries, including students and staff, have access to clean water throughout the year. The contractor cost of the project was ₹3,09,750, covering infrastructure, filtration mechanisms, and installation.

By implementing this project in an educational building, Vasundhra Sanjivani Mandal not only provides a sustainable water source but also instills awareness about water conservation among young minds. This initiative is a step towards self-sufficiency in rural schools, ensuring that children do not face water scarcity and can focus on their education in a healthier environment. Through such impactful projects, the NGO continues its mission of water conservation and rural development across Maharashtra.
