Rainwater Harvesting Project at Z. P. School Shelavali Bangar, Shahapur
Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal, Thane, is committed to sustainable water conservation, ensuring rural communities have access to clean and reliable water sources. As part of this mission, we have implemented a Rainwater Harvesting project completed in the year September 2024 at Z. P. School Shelavali Bangar, Shahapur, benefitting 177 individuals, including students and staff.
The project captures rainwater from rooftop area of the school, effectively utilizing the building as a catchment surface. With an estimated potential to harvest 4.20 lac litres per year, this initiative significantly contributes to water security in the region. The stored rainwater will be used for drinking, sanitation, and daily school activities, ensuring a steady supply, even during dry periods.
This initiative has been made possible with generous support from Mahindra Finance, whose contribution has helped cover the contractor project expenditure of ₹3.31 Lac. By implementing this system, we are not only addressing immediate water needs but also promoting long-term sustainability, reducing dependency on external water sources, and fostering environmental awareness among students.
Through projects like these, Vasundhara Sanjivani Mandal continues its commitment to rural development, empowering communities with practical solutions for water conservation. This rainwater harvesting system will serve as a model for similar educational institutions, reinforcing the importance of water resource management for future generations.
